MEDJOOL DATE PALMS · PHOENIX DACTYLIFERA

Mature Medjool palms for landmark landscapes.

California-grown specimens selected for trunk character, crown quality, scale and the realities of harvest, transportation and establishment.

THE SPECIMEN

Monumental form with an agricultural history.

Medjool date palms are known for substantial trunks, bold diamond patterns and full crowns. In landscape applications, they create immediate scale at estate entries, resorts, commercial centers, streetscapes and civic projects.

We source mature palms from established low-desert groves and match the actual specimen—not a generic stock image—to the project specification.

BUYER'S SPECIFICATION

What to define before requesting availability.

Cultivar identity, quantity, clear-trunk measurement, finish, crown character, destination, access, receiving equipment and delivery window determine which palms truly fit.

SELECTION STANDARDS

Compare the qualities that affect the finished landscape.

01

Clear-trunk height

Agree on the exact measurement reference. Finished-grade relationship and retained green fronds affect how the palm reads on site.

02

Trunk character

Diameter, taper, scars, curvature and diamond-cut consistency influence architectural presence and repeatability.

03

Crown condition

A sound terminal bud, balanced canopy and appropriate frond retention matter more than temporary visual fullness.

04

Root and harvest access

Soil, row access and equipment position influence root-ball formation, extraction control and the practical harvest schedule.

05

Project composition

One focal specimen may celebrate character; an allée or repeated elevation usually demands tighter visual matching.

06

Destination readiness

Climate, drainage, access, equipment, planting depth, water and bracing must be planned before the truck departs.

COMMON APPLICATIONS

Designed for immediate scale.

  • Luxury residential entries and courtyards
  • Resorts, hotels and destination properties
  • Commercial centers and mixed-use developments
  • Municipal streetscapes and civic landmarks
  • Formal allées and arrival sequences
  • Waterfront and warm-climate landscapes

CULTIVAR COMPARISON

The monumental reference.

Compared with Deglet Noor, Medjool generally reads as broader and more substantial. Compared with Zahidi, it usually provides a more dramatic landmark silhouette. Choose Medjool when immediate visual weight is the primary design objective.

MEDJOOL PALM QUESTIONS

Answers for buyers, designers and installers.

What is a Medjool palm?

The Medjool date palm is a cultivated form of Phoenix dactylifera. Mature agricultural specimens can be selected and prepared for a second life as large-scale landscape palms.

How are mature Medjool palms sized?

Landscape specimens are commonly specified by clear-trunk height, measured from finished grade to the lowest retained green frond or agreed trunk reference. Overall height varies with the crown, so the measurement method should be confirmed before purchase.

Do you ship Medjool palms outside California?

Yes. Palm Desert Palms plans commercial loads from California for suitable destinations throughout the southern United States, subject to agricultural requirements, route limitations and receiving-site readiness.

Can a mature Medjool palm be transplanted?

Yes, when selection, root-ball formation, crown protection, lifting, transport, planting depth, stabilization and irrigation are handled as one coordinated process.

How much water does a newly planted Medjool palm need?

There is no responsible universal gallons-per-day number. The initial dose and frequency must reflect root-ball dimensions, soil infiltration, drainage, weather and irrigation output. The root ball should remain evenly moist during early recovery, not continuously saturated.
