Clear-trunk height is usually the most useful starting measurement for mature landscape palms. It should be defined by an agreed reference point, not assumed from a casual height description. Finished grade, retained green fronds and trunk finish all affect the visual result.
Overall height can mislead
Overall height includes the crown, and crowns change with preparation, transport and seasonal condition. A palm with the same clear-trunk height can appear taller or shorter depending on frond retention and canopy posture.
Caliper and trunk character matter
Diameter, taper, scars, curve and diamond-cut consistency influence the architectural presence of the palm. For matched rows, these details affect repeatability. For specimen palms, natural character may be desirable.
Use a complete size request
A practical request includes cultivar, quantity, clear-trunk range, acceptable trunk character, finish, destination, delivery window and whether exact matching matters. Photos should be current and tied to the actual palms being quoted.
