Use botanical and cultivar names
Specify Phoenix dactylifera and the intended cultivar when the design depends on Medjool, Deglet Noor or Zahidi. Generic date-palm language invites substitution.
Define measurable size requirements
Include clear-trunk measurement method, acceptable range, trunk character, finish, crown expectations and tolerance for natural variation. Overall height alone is not enough.
State matching requirements
A single specimen, an entry pair and a repeated allee have different sourcing standards. The specification should say whether character, symmetry or strict repeatability matters most.
Include logistics and establishment
Large palms need access, route planning, unloading equipment, correct planting depth, irrigation, bracing and monitoring. These should be part of the project conversation, not afterthoughts.
